Message from the APPROACH-IS II team from Meintegral Cardiovascular Center in Colombia (Dr. John Jairo Araujo)
March 3, 2021
In Latin America, adults with congenital heart disease are population that has grown at a very rapid rate. However, this population is not cured, they live with residues and sequelae that affect their quality of life. Meintegral Cardiovascular Center, is a hospital located in Manizales-Colombia, in the middle of the Andes mountains. When we were invited to participate in the APPROACH-IS II. We were very excited. Participate in international research, together with more Latin American hospitals, such as Argentina, Chile, Brazil. It will allow us to know our reality and compare the results with other countries. Also analyze what we are doing right or wrong in the care of congenital heart disease.
We begun data collection in June, just in the middle of the COVID-19 outbreak. We sent the surveys by mail, and physical examinations were carried out with protection protocols. These were our success keys, and we completed 200 patients for part 1. This research fills us with encouragement and reasons to keep hardworking, overcome adversity and continue on our goals. Our perception of adults with congenital heart disease in Latin America is that they are a more sicker in relation to industrialized countries. So we hope that the representation of Latin American countries in APPROACH-IS II, let us know the true outcomes. On this day, we want to motivate all researchers to continue contributing to international studies, and to persevere for your objectives.
Kind Regards
John Jairo Araujo
